History and Background:
The name Fazio associated with course design and construction represents excellence. It all started with George Fazio, the late uncle of Jim and his younger, brother, Tom. George was an accomplished player successfully competing with Ben Hogan, Sam Snead, Byron Nelson, and the other great golfers of that era. He, also, had an eye for how a golf whole should play, look, and blend into the terrain. As his playing career began winding down, George moved into a career of course design resulting in great recognition and acclaim. His contributions to golf design and accomplishments were numerous. However, many say Jupiter Hills Golf Club in south Florida may have been his most outstanding work.
The artistic instincts and the craft of golf course design were passed on to his two nephews, who were both drawn to this creative life work. George, Jim, and Tom were associated for twenty years beginning in 1961. The late George Fazio’s greatest legacy is the continued influence and impact on golf through the work of his two nephews. Although Jim’s company is located in southern Florida on the east coast and Tom has his company headquarters in the southern mountains of North Carolina, the two siblings remain very amicable and close. Both have made great contributions to the game and their communities.
Philosophy:
Understanding and rapport must first be established between the owner and the golf course architect. Each must have and share a clear understanding of what is wanted and what is offered. Finally, each must agree that in their choice of each other, a mutually satisfactory and lasting accomplishment it predictable.
Jim Fazio’s Career Highlights:
The accomplishments of Jim Fazio and his family cannot be contained within such a limited space, but allow us to provide a list of achievements:
- Chosen by Donald Trump to design and construct Trump International Golf Club which was recently selected by Links Magazine as the best course in Florida in 2005.
- From 1967 through 1971, designed, built, and managed a 36-hole facility with one course private and the other public gaining experience and insight into facility operations.
- Formed his own company as a designer and builder. In a few ventures, played an ownership role by purchasing a share of the business.
- Just in Florida, Jim has participated in the ownership of theses excellent facilities: The Legacy Golf and Country Club of Port St. Lucie, St. Lucie West (PGA) Golf and Country Club, Hawk’s Nest Golf Club near Vero Beach, and Ballyhoo National Golf Club in Palm City. All were designed and constructed by his firm.
- Has designed courses in the United States, Japan, Spain, Italy, and the Caribbean Islands.
